Child rape suspect shot to death by police, Centralia officer stabbed during incident

A suspect was shot and killed by Centralia police officers while deputies and police attempted to arrest him.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, detectives from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department were attempting to arrest a 32-year-old suspect wanted for child rape.

Pierce County deputies located the suspect near a home in the 400 block of NE Adams Ave. in Chehalis. When they tried to arrest him around 10:15 a.m., it appeared that he was reaching for a weapon, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. At that time, a Pierce County detective fired a weapon and the suspect ran away.

A K9 was able to track the suspect to the 100 block of SW Alfred Street in Chehalis two hours later.

A Centralia police officer was stabbed in the head and back while trying to get to the suspect.

Officers from the Centralia Police Department then fired at the suspect, killing him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery.
