Bremerton police say serial arsonist is targeting government building

bremertonWANTED IN BREMERTON -- Bremerton police say a serial arsonist is targeting a government building, but so far has been a failure at attempts to burn it down. There have been five different fires at the same building over the last seven years -- four in just the last few months. The building is on Kitsap Way and houses the Department of Corrections, where ex-cons check in with officers. Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan doesn`t think that's a coincidence. “Needless to say, the obvious answer is this is probably someone who's under supervision with the DOC. We've been looking into that, but the fact is this person is escalating, the arson fires are getting worse and worse, and this is a very, very serious crime." The latest arson was last month, and the damage from the flames is still visible. Windows are boarded up. The Chief says it's not just this building they're worried about. "It's right next to a motel, which again makes it much more serious because you have people at risk who are there overnight. The fact is, the fire department has gotten there very quickly to put it out, but the fires have been getting more and more serious over the last few months, and again, it points to the reason we need to get this person stopped. The fact is somebody knows who's doing this." There are also restaurants nearby putting people`s lives in danger. The arsonist has caused more than $100,000 in damage, and police need your help stopping this firebug.
