New M's closer Steve Cishek: Hopefully the anti-Fernando Rodney in Seattle

No more fake arrows. No more hats turned to the side. And hopefully, no more emotional rollercoaster rides.

"I'm more on the quiet side, but I've been known to throw a fist pump here and there," Steve Cishek said.

Welcome Steve Cishek, the Mariners projected closer, whose only distinguishing trait is his motion on the mound.

“You know, having that funky funky delivery man. It’s somewhat similar to me in a way I guess,” M's reliever Charlie Furbush said.

Added M's manager Scott Servais: “Our division doesn’t know him. Which is a good thing too. But you still got to get them out.”

Which is something Cishek struggled with last year, benched after a month and a half in Miami, following two and a half strong years as the Marlins closer, racking up 88 total saves.

“There’s no reason he shouldn’t bounce back,” said M's General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

And that’s what Dipoto is banking on, for the back-end of a completely rebuilt bullpen – one that blew 24 saves with the fourth-worst ERA in the American League last year.

“The question mark that we have to fill over the next six or seven weeks is what we do with the bullpen,” Dipoto said.

It's a bullpen that returns just one player in Charlie Furbush – and has strong hopes for Cishek, the anti-Fernando Rodney, relishing a second chance, this time at Safeco Field.

“It’s obviously a great ballpark, a great city, and now I’m starting to realize we have great teammates and a great coaching staff, so it’s a perfect fit for me,” Cishek said.
