WSP: Man killed in I-5 crash near JBLM may have suffered medical emergency



PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. -- A driver who may have suffered a medical emergency died after his truck drove off of an I-5 ramp near Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Troopers were called to southbound I-5 at Berkeley Avenue SW around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver of a red pickup which turned left on the off-ramp while exiting I-5 southbound. The truck fell down an embankment and hit a semi.

The driver of the truck died at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.

WSP said two southbound lanes of traffic would continue to be blocked through at least 10 a.m.

Troopers said they would release more information soon.
