San Diego considers building observation tower with rotating restaurant at the top (VIDEO)

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Port District is considering building an observation tower along the waterfront.

KSWB reports the 'SkySpire' is one of several proposals being considered. The tower would feature a rotating restaurant similar to the Space Needle.

But revolving gondolas would provide 360-degree views as they spiraled up.

“They’ll enter a 10-passenger heated or cooled gondola that will revolve around the tower about two to three revolutions going up,” said Michael Kitchen, president of U.S. Thrill Rides Inc. “In the core of the tower itself, there will be two elevators that will allow you to bypass the gondola and go straight up to the restaurant level on the top.”

No decisions have been made and there is no timetable for any new project.
