KILLER WANTED IN AUBURN -- Police are looking for help solving the murder of a 50-year-old man who was stabbed on a popular trail in July. They’re releasing new surveillance video of the man, from the night before he was killed. Police Cmdr. Steve Stocker walked along the Interurban Trail, to the spot where officers found the body of Michael Bippes on the morning of July 8. His mother says the Bippes was between homes at the time. Police say there is a large transient population in the area, but no one they’ve interviewed has helped them figure out why Bippes may have been targeted.
“We’re just not receiving any information that he was having any serious problems with anybody or any big fight or argument with anybody," Stocker said. They do know that he went shopping at the Auburn Walmart the night before he was killed. “He left Walmart and was seen on the trail at about 10 p.m. by a couple of people. So somewhere between 10 p.m. and when our officers found him in the morning is when this occurred.” Police is asking that anyone who may have seen Bippes that night to contact them. They say even the smallest detail may help them move their investigation forward. They’re also asking the public to help them find a person of interest. Bippes’ mother wants answers. She says her son did not deserve to die the way he did. Auburn police agree. “We don’t know if it’s somebody that knows him or if it’s somebody that does not know him. If it was somebody that was random, that’s certainly a concern in our community here, that someone out here willing to do this.” If you have any information on this case for Auburn Police, call their Tip Line at 253-288-7403 or call an anonymous tip into: CRIME STOPPERS: 1-800-222-TIPS You must call the Crime Stoppers hotline with your tip to be eligible to receive a cash reward for information leading to a fugitive’s arrest.
