Kirkland Police arrest three in 2020 killing of 18-year-old at Houghton Beach Park

Investigators say they arrested two juveniles and an adult on Wednesday, February 17th, in connection with the killing of an 18-year-old last year in Kirkland.

According to Kirkland Police, Cyrus Mason was shot and killed at Houghton Beach Park the night of of Sept. 16, 2020.

Officers found Mason shot multiple times at the park and took him to a hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said that the park was the destination for a firearms transaction. It was chosen since Kirkland is geographically located between Marysville, where the victim was traveling from, and Renton, where the suspects were traveling from.

The morning of Feb. 17, Kirkland Police made three arrests with assistance from the North Sound Metro SWAT Team. Two juveniles and one adult were booked into King County Jail for investigation of Murder in the First Degree. The suspects have not yet been identified.

Kirkland Police are asking for help to ID the crew of teenage suspects from Renton known to drive this dark blue BMW 535 xi with a rear left spare tire and loud exhaust.

18-year-old Cyrus Mason was shot and killed at Houghton Beach Park in Kirkland the evening of September 16.

Kirkland investigators have discovered that Houghton Beach Park was the destination for a firearms transaction. It was chosen since Kirkland is geographically located between Marysville, where the victim was traveling from, and Renton, where the suspects were traveling from. Investigators have contacted two of the three persons of interest in this case. There is more information leading to the possibility of a fourth person of interest.

Investigators still need more information about the suspects that were seen on the dock at the time of the shooting.

Suspect 1 has been described as a white male, age 15-20 years old, 5’10"-6’ tall, thin build, curly hair (unknown color), wearing a gray hoodie, either gray sweatpants or light-colored jeans, and white athletic shoes.

Suspect 2 has been described as an unknown race male, light skin, age 15-20 years old, 5’8"-5’10" tall, thin build, with dark curly hair, wearing a black hoodie, and black pants.

Audio evidence recovered of the shooting reveals multiple shots being fired. The suspects described above were seen running toward and getting into the BMW.

Kirkland Police are asking that anyone who has information on persons associated with this vehicle to please contact investigators. There are distinct features of the vehicle that stand out: Front passenger side running light out, the vehicle has a loud muffler, and the driver side rear tire is a spare tire.

The vehicle left the area traveling northbound on Lakeview Drive. It was seen nearly colliding with another car that was traveling southbound on Lakeview Drive. The car has been located, but Kirkland Police are asking the driver of that car to please come forward with information they can provide to aid in the investigation.
