Car in collision crashes into natural gas pump, forcing evacuation of nearby apartment building

EVERETT -- A car involved in a crash on West Casino Road in Everett Thursday night hit a natural gas pump and then fled, prompting authorities to evacuate a nearby apartment building and convenience store as a precaution, Everett police said.

Two cars were involved in a collision shortly after 10 p.m. in the 900 block of West Casino Road, Everett police Sgt. Maryjane Hacker said.

The causing car fled, Hacker said, and the victim's car crashed into a natural gas pump. The person in that car was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, she said.

No one else was reported injured.

Puget Sound Energy was attempting to shut off the natural gas leak.
