DUPONT, Wash.-- The Better Business Bureau sent out a warning Wednesday about scammers who prey on people in need of home repair. They want to remind homeowners who have suffered property damage to take precautions when cleaning and making repair decisions.
The Bureau suggested contacting your insurance company before hiring anyone. They said your insurance company will tell you how to file a claim and if your police coverage meets requirements.
The Bureau also suggested people research contractors to make sure they are properly licensed, bonded and insured. That research should include checking references before signing a contract.
The organization also advised you never pay in full for advanced repairs and you use a credit card instead of paying in cash.
