16-year-old student killed in Taco Bell parking lot

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed outside a Taco Bell in Federal Way on Saturday night, according to police.

Police have identified the victim as Wesley Gennings, a student at Decatur High School.

His family said Wesley was a football player and a wrestler there.

Officers responded to reports of a gunshots on SW Campus Drive just after 8 p.m.

When they arrived in the restaurant's parking lot, police found Gennings with a fatal gunshot wound inside a car.



A witness told detectives that two men ran from the scene, heading southeast from the parking lot.  The men were described as being in their late teens or early 20s and wearing dark clothing.

Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell released a statement on Sunday morning.

"The shooting of a teenage boy last night was a tragedy and I send my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and schoolmates at Decatur High School," said Mayor Ferrell.

"Far too often, communities across our country are faced with these types of devastating crimes."

Detectives are actively following up leads and working this case.
