ENGINEERING

Master Control Technician

FOX 13 in Seattle, WA has an immediate opening for a Master Control Technician. This position is directly responsible for maintaining our on-air look and monitoring the output of multiple TV stations at our local Seattle facility while ensuring all FCC requirements are met. The Master Control Technician is also responsible for ensuring content is ingested and prepared for air well ahead of airtime and taking measures to get re-feeds when required. Communicating continuously with Traffic, News, Programming, and Creative Service Departments verbally and by e-mails is critical to this position. The successful candidate must also master our on-air automation system and assist other operators as needed. Clear communication with Engineering is critical in this position in order to solve issues when they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance of program and spot media.
  • Verify playlists and events are correct and make changes when required.
  • Execute breaking news cut-ins and roll breaks for live events.
  • Steer satellite dishes and tune satellite receivers for feeds and live events.
  • Transfer media into automation system and prep for playback.
  • Notify Engineering in the event of an on-air technical problem.
  • Position requires performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assist Engineering when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1-year minimum experience in a master control environment is required. 
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm when problems arise.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work all shifts.
  • Must be willing to assist Engineering with pulling cable, mounting equipment, lifting gear, etc., when requested.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $27.61-32.42 per hour for Washington. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. NEWS

News Editor

FOX 13 and FOX 13+ the FOX O&O Duopoly in Seattle is seeking a dynamic video editor to join our news team. We are looking for someone who will do more than just lay shots onto a timeline. The successful candidate will be a collaborator who transcends all newsroom workgroups – to ensure our stories come to life with the best possible visuals. We are seeking an editor who is familiar with a diverse array of video editing techniques. For example – video used in a fast-paced nightly sportscast will be cut differently than a serious 3-camera anchor interview. What’s more – your work will be showcased in a variety of media: television newscasts, digital media, specials & documentaries, and social media posts.

Our editing team uses Edius to cut video, but experience on similar non-linear editing platforms like Avid or Final Cut is also acceptable. You should be familiar with basic journalistic editing functions, as well as advanced techniques and effects that can enhance traditional video. This would include products in the Adobe Suite. The successful candidate will possess superior editorial judgement, work well in a deadline-driven environment, and be capable of editing video quickly, accurately and creatively. This is a full-time position with a regular shift schedule, but the news is a 24/7 world that could include different hours or shifts if warranted for breaking news, special coverage, vacation relief or holidays.

Senior Producer

FOX 13, the FOX Television Stations Owned & Operated Duopoly in Seattle, is seeking an experienced journalist and news producer to join our newsroom team as senior producer on "Good Day Seattle." The ideal candidate will be a skilled "rundown doctor" who likes to try something new every day and encourage others to do the same: dress up a lead story, get creative with weather coverage, dig for sidebar/breakout content, or utilize untapped resources to make each newscast pop.

The successful candidate should also be a terrific writer, with particular attention to lead writing, tease writing, and copy editing. The senior producer will not be assigned to a specific newscast on a regular basis but will help manage a strong line producing team elevate their game even more. We’re looking for someone who can know the rundown(s) like the back of their hand and be able to make necessary changes as the morning unfolds – in a diplomatic way that endeavors to ensure all our bases remain covered.

The successful candidate should have 5-7 years line producing in a mid to major media market. If you have good EP experience in a smaller market, that’s ok too! We are looking for a team player who is a champion of our daily journalism efforts. This role is focused primarily on the production of our weekday morning news block (weekdays 4:30-10 a.m.). However, the news business is a 24/7 world, and that schedule could change occasionally for various needs including vacation relief, holiday coverage, breaking news or other special events.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Decisive, authoritative leadership skills and the ability to build a strong team environment.
  • Ability to integrate social media with broadcast television.
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under daily pressure and successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • This is a full-time position on a regular shift, but the news is a 24/7 world and that could occasionally include other shifts as breaking news or other circumstances warrant.

Education and Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a medium to major television market is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Radio/TV, or related discipline preferred.
