WWU's D'Angelo Minnis hits half-court buzzer-beater for OT win

Western Washington sophomore guard D'Angelo Minnis banked in a shot from just beyond half court to give Western Washington University a stunning 83-80 overtime victory over Montana State-Billings on Thursday night.

The Vikings, (13-11, 6-8 GNAC), scored eight unanswered points in the final 18 seconds to steal a victory on the road. Western Washington had forced overtime on a free throw from Luke Lovelady with 16 seconds left to play in regulation. MSU-Billings, (12-12, 8-6 GNAC), built a six-point lead, 78-72, with just 39 seconds remaining. A 3-pointer from Lucas Holden cut the lead to three before Carrington Wiggins made a pair of free throws to push the lead back to five with 18 seconds left.

Minnis hit a 3-point shot with 13 seconds left to trim the lead to two, 80-78. MSU-Billings was pressured into a turnover before Jalen Green hit a turnaround jumper from the free throw line to tie the game at 80-80 with two seconds left. Bilal Shabazz heaved an inbounds pass into the front court for MSU-Billings that was picked off by Green and quickly fed to Minnis, who chucked up the shot as time expired. The shot slammed off the glass and through the net to give Western Washington the overtime win.

Minnis played all 45 minutes of the game for the Vikings, finishing with 19 points and five assists. He was 5-of-8 from three-point distance during the game. Green led the Vikings with 23 points.

Wiggins led all scorers with 31 points for MSU-Billings.

Western Washington is seventh in the GNAC standings with three games remaining on their regular season schedule. They play at Seattle Pacific on Saturday night. The Falcons () are coming off an 87-79 victory over Simon Fraser on Thursday night.

The GNAC tournament will be March 2-5 at Seattle Pacific. The Division II Men's Basketball Tournament begins on Sat. March 12 at regional sites.
