Huskies No. 5 in first CFP ranking, just outside playoff race

SEATTLE – Washington Huskies fans reacted angrily Tuesday night when the first College Football Playoff rankings were released.

The Huskies, who are ranked No. 4 in the AP poll and the CNN coaches’ poll, came in at No. 5 in the CFP rankings. If they were to finish at No. 5, they would miss the playoffs.

The CFP rankings bequeathed the No. 4 spot on Texas A&M. The 7-1 Aggies are No. 7 in both the AP and CNN polls.

The Huskies are undefeated, while the Aggies’ lone loss came against No. 1 Alabama, 33-14, on Oct. 22.

The Clemson Tigers were ranked No. 2, while the Michigan Wolverines came in at No. 3. Both teams are undefeated.

Rounding out the top 10 are Ohio State, Louisville, Wisconsin, Auburn and Nebraska.

The Huskies, who defeated Utah 31-24 last Saturday, play at Cal at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
