Alexia Thomas, a senior at Kentwood High School, was selected Athlete of the Week based on her dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, and athletic performance. Alexia holds a combined 3.75 GPA while taking classes both at Kentwood High School and Green River Community College where she is on track to receive her Associates of Arts Degree at the same time as her high school diploma this spring. Through her cheer squad, Alexia has helped organize a back to school festival that collected thousands of dollars in school supplies and backpacks for a local elementary school. She is also involved in the annual Toys for Tots toy drive, fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness foundation, and volunteers as a camp counselor at Covington’s Parks and Recreation track and field camps. Alexia is captain of both her cheer and track teams. She is a three time state champion and MVP in cheer as well as National Champion in 4-man Stunt Group and the Individual Cheerleader State Champion for 2015 and 2016. Alexia also runs track and has multiple top 10 finishes in the state tournament and was voted MVP for the 2016 season. Alexia is a prime example of a leader in all that she does and inspires her teammates to do their best both on the mat and in the community.
The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink and Q13 FOX are honoring Washington state high school student athletes that display excellence both on and off the field during the 2016 fall sports season.
Coaches, teachers, parents, peers and community members can nominate outstanding fall student athletes based on the student’s dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, reliability and weekly athletic performance.
Every student athlete will be recognized at his/her school and at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 grant to their school's from CenturyLink and the Seahawks -- plus a personalized 2016 Nike Seahawks jersey, a custom football, sideline passes to a home game and more!
“CenturyLink is honored to partner with the Seattle Seahawks and Q13 FOX on this great program,” said Sue Anderson, CenturyLink’s Vice President of Operations for Seattle. “We believe in developing the potential of area student athletes and supporting their efforts in the community, both on and off the field.”
Each week, CenturyLink executives and Seahawks personnel will select a nominated student who meets or exceeds the criteria.
