Gardening with Tim: Big event happening this weekend in Seattle

SEATTLE- The Emerald City will be getting even greener this weekend as hundreds tour chicken coops and farms located right within the city limits. It's the Seattle Tilth Chicken Coop and Urban Farm tour. The annual event goes back to 1999, when Seattle was just beginning to become a hot spot for chicken coops and people doing urban farming. This year 19 urban farms are participating. You can see what's needed for keeping miniature goats, mason bees, honey bees, rabbits, ducks and of course chickens. The $15 donation gets you a map to how to find these inspirational urban farms located in neighborhoods all over the city. The homeowners will be on hand from 10am until 4pm Saturday, July 16th to show off their yards and gardens and answer questions. All the proceeds from the event go to support the efforts of non-profit Seattle Tilth. The mission of Seattle Tilth is to inspire and educate people to safeguard our natural resources while building an equitable and sustainable local food system. Seattle Tilth is home to a number of great programs, they also offer classes to the general public and work to support small family farmers around all of Washington State.
