Widow sues Seattle hospital over 'superbug' death

SEATTLE (AP) — A widow is suing a Seattle hospital and a medical device manufacturer over the death of her husband following a drug-resistant "superbug" infection.

The Seattle Times reports Virginia Mason has reversed an earlier decision and now is notifying patients and families members who were part of an outbreak that infected 32 people between 2012 and 2014.

The hospital's chief executive says they should have gone back to the patients to share the likely source of the infection, which involved a scope used during diagnostic and treatment at Virginia Mason Medical Center.

Theresa Bigler's husband was one of 11 patients who died from the infection. The Woodway, Washington, resident says she just wants to learn how and why this happened.
