Whatcom County eyes potential vaping ban

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Officials in Whatcom County in northwest Washington state are considering banning vaping in certain areas.

The Bellingham Herald reports that the County Council is looking at putting the same restrictions on e-cigarettes as traditional cigarettes.

Traditional cigarettes can't be smoked in public places and indoor work places such as bars, restaurants, non-tribal casinos and bowling alleys.

Vaping within 25 feet of doors and windows of public places or businesses would also be prohibited.

The County Council is holding a public hearing Tuesday to consider the measure.

Public health officials say the ban is needed due to health risks and increased vaping use by young people.
