Washington man dies in B.C. skiing accident

SEATTLE (AP) — A man who died after a skiing accident in British Columbia's Kootenay region has been identified as a 49-year-old man from Washington state.

Paul John Omegna, of Fife, was skiing with companions at the Red Mountain resort in Rossland, B.C., Sunday afternoon.

The B.C. Coroners Service says he became separated from other members of his party and when he did not meet up with them after the ski run, they reported him missing.

The Ski Patrol found him unresponsive in the late afternoon and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, but could not be resuscitated.

The B.C. Coroners Service and other authorities continue to investigate his death.

The service says Omegna's family has been notified.
