Thousands of police officers to attend funeral of New York cop killed in ambush with partner

NEW YORK (AP) — Thousands of police officers and community members are expected to attend the funeral of a New York City policeman killed with his partner in an ambush shooting.

The funeral Saturday at a Queens church for officer Rafael Ramos comes one week after he and officer Wenjian Liu were killed in their patrol car.

Mayor Bill de Blasio  and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to deliver remarks.

On Friday, thousands of officers from across the country attended an eight-hour wake for Ramos.

The 40-year-old married father of two was described as a compassionate man. His commanding officer said he kept Bible study books in his locker.

Gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley had posted online about high-profile killings of unarmed black men by police. He killed himself after the shooting.
