Teenage girls throw bleach in victims' faces during robbery attempts

SEATTLE -- Seattle Police are on the lookout for two teenage girls who are throwing bleach in people’s faces in an attempt to rob them.

It happened in two different shopping center parking lots. According to SPD, the first attack happened around 7 p.m. Monday in the Dollar Tree parking lot. They say one teen approached the victim and said "excuse me" from behind her. When the victim turned around, the suspect threw a coffee cup filled with bleach in the woman's face and tried to grab her cell phone.

Witnesses said after getting bleach thrown in her face, the victim ran into this hair supply store, screaming for help.

An hour after that incident, police received a similar report in the parking lot of the Safeway grocery store in the 3900 block of South Othello Street but this time involving two teenage girls.

“I think it’s really bad,” said Mana Feleke, another concerned shopper. “It’s scary and especially teenaged girls are doing that? Not good.”

The incidents are causing 86-year old Dorothy Terrell to clutch her purse just a little tighter at her Rainier Valley Safeway.

“It’s scary because if something happens once, it’ll happen again,” said Terrell.

Seattle Police describe the suspects in both incidents as:

-Black females

-Between 14-18 years old

-Between 4’11” and 5’5” tall

-One had cornrow braids

-Both wore black hooded sweatshirts.

Seattle Police say in both instances, the teens failed in their robbery attempts. They say the victims were checked out but should be OK.
