Teen pleads guilty to starting fire with fireworks, gets jail time

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Vancouver teen who set off fireworks that destroyed a home was sentenced Thursday to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay $256,000 in restitution.

Eighteen-year-old Andrew A. Perez-Garcia pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to a reckless burning charge in a plea deal to have an arson charge dismissed.

The Columbian reports the teen said he never intended to destroy the home. The fireworks started a fire on July 5 that spread to the home.
