Target fined $21,000 for Lake Stevens worker's death

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (AP) — Target is facing $21,000 in fines following the death of an employee at a store in Lake Stevens.

The Daily Herald reports the state Department of Labor and Industries released findings Monday stating that the store had three serious violations of workplace safety laws.

On June 7, 58-year-old Marjorie Reed of Snohomish was stocking shelves when she fell from a ladder and suffered fatal head injuries.

The three violations all pertained to the use of ladders. Target allegedly allowed workers to lean over the sides of ladders and climb down ladders while carrying products. The store was also cited for having Reed use a ladder with bent footing.

Target, which didn't return requests for comment, is appealing the fines.
