Tacoma man gets 20 years for fatal dispute over speaker

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Tacoma man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for stabbing a man to death during a dispute over a portable speaker.

The News Tribune reports that 39-year-old Marcus Thornton was sentenced in Pierce County Superior Court on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Thornton stabbed 35-year-old John Scott Ware Jr. to death in September 2014 because he thought the other man had stolen a speaker from him.

Several neighbors reported hearing a fight before the stabbing and seeing a man standing over Ware as he lay on the ground.
