Suit against Olympia School District cites hazing of student

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed in federal court against the Olympia School District on behalf of a former student, alleging the district should have done more to protect him from a hazing ritual.

The Olympian reports that attorney Darrell Cochran is representing the student in the suit, which seeks an unspecified amount in damages.

According to the complaint, Cochran's client was a victim in 2012 of the hazing ritual known as "BNDing," in which older boys on the Capital High School basketball team had sexual contact with younger boys.

The suit alleges the district didn't do enough to protect the boy and failed to discipline the attackers in a timely manner.

An Olympia School District spokeswoman says district officials are reviewing the suit.
