BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Police said cooperation from social media platform Yik Yak helped them track down a suspect in connection with the online threats that closed Western Washington University last week.
Tysen Campbell, 19, was arrested on campus and booked into jail on suspicion of malicious harassment, which is a felony.
Police obtained a search warrant and worked with Yik Yak to track down the author of what was reportedly a racially motivated post.
Campbell lives on campus, but he’s been suspended and won’t be allowed back on the grounds until the legal process and the school’s own student-conduct investigation have ran their course.
University police said they’re still investigating other recent online messages targeting black students.
