Snohomish voters to decide on pot ban

SNOHOMISH, Wash. (AP) — Snohomish officials are seeking input from the public before they decide on whether to lift the city's ban on recreational marijuana sales.

The Daily Herald reports (http://goo.gl/OEQ40Y ) that the City Council approved putting the proposal on the November 2017 ballot for an advisory vote on Tuesday.

The city's ban on pot businesses was implemented in 2014.

Those in favor of allowing the businesses to operate say a majority of voters already made the choice to allow recreational marijuana in the state in 2012. Opponents who spoke out at the City Council meeting Tuesday asked city leaders not to let Snohomish become a "pot smoker's paradise."

If the ban is lifted, the city estimates it would receive about $30,000 a year in marijuana revenue.
