Seattle police identify WWII vet who owned lost medals, working to return them to family

SEATTLE – Thanks to a series of tips, detectives have identified the man in the photo as Rear Admiral Frank G. Johnson.

Johnson, however, died on April 3, 1981, but police have identified a family member in the Seattle area and are now working to locate them to return the medals.

Seattle police had asked for the public’s help returning a WWII veteran’s medals, which turned up during a routine inventory by their evidence unit recently.

They said  he earned two bronze stars – including one for valor in combat.

Detectives had contacted everyone from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to the American Legion in hopes of tracking down the medals’ owner, but with no luck until the tips came in.
