Rescue crews find missing 24-year-old hiker injured, but responsive

PUYALLUP -- Search and rescue crews found a missing 24-year-old hiker Monday night.

Crews found Lacy Annette Murphy after calling her name in the area she was slated to hike. Murphy responded to crews' calls, the National Park Service said, and she was found off-trail down an embankment.

Murphy was injured in some way, rescue crews said. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known.

Crews worked in rugged terrain late in the evening to rescue Murphy, officials said, and will work throughout the night to extricate her.

Before crews spotted her, Murphy was last seen in the Puyallup area Sunday.

A joint investigation was launched with the National Park Service, Pierce County Search and Rescue and the Puyallup Police Department.
