Report: Woman who accused Marshawn Lynch charged with making a false statement to police

BELLEVUE -- The woman who made assault and property damage allegations against Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch has been charged with making a false statement to a public servant, the Seattle Times reported Friday.

The newspaper, city the Bellevue City Attorney's Office, said Jammie Lynn Ficarelli, 31, of Everett was charged in King  County District Court on Thursday.

If convicted of the gross misdemeanor, she could face a sentence of up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

The Bellevue Police Department last week asked the prosecutor's office to consider filing a misdemeanor charge against the woman who accused Lynch of physically assaulting her and breaking a strap on her purse at a Bellevue apartment complex in the early morning hours of Aug. 10.

The police investigation had earlier cleared Lynch of any involvement in the case.

The police report said that the woman told officres she had been drinking heavily and knew the man who picked her up on the street outside the apartment complex and who later assaulted her was Lynch because "she frequently watches the Seahawks play on TV and she has attended several Seahawks games in the past."

Police said a Seahawks security guard at a Bellevue hotel said that Lynch was with his teammates at the team hotel all night -- and had not left -- on the night of the incident.

Police also found a man who lives in the Bellevue apartment complex that confirmed he was the one who had picked up the woman outside and that he never told her he played football or that he was Lynch.

"The Bellevue Police Department has developed probable cause to believe that the suspect, a 31-year-old female, violated RCW 9A.76.175, making a false or misleading statement to a public servant," the department said in a news release. "The Bellevue Police department has forwarded a criminal summons to the Bellevue city attorney’s office for charging."
