Renton motorcycle cop seriously injured in head-on crash

RENTON -- A Renton motorcycle cop was seriously injured after a head-on crash with a car Monday.

The 44-year-old officer had visible injuries when he was rushed into the emergency room at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center. Officials say he has broken bones and will need surgery to fully recover.

As of Monday afternoon, he was listed in satisfactory condition.

Renton police say the accident occurred when the motorcycle cop was on his way to a collision that was part of a burglary-in-progress call.

The officer was going southbound on Lind Avenue SW when a driver in a Subaru Outback, a crossover SUV, was getting ready to take a turn; that’s when the head-on crash happened.

Renton Police say they’ve had motorcycle cops get into accidents but nothing this serious before.

As for the driver of the Subaru, police say the person is doing OK. Investigators don’t think drugs or alcohol played a role.
