Prosecutors portray accused shooter as jealous ex-boyfriend

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- Prosecutors are portraying a man charged with killing a woman and a 2-year-old boy as a jealous ex-boyfriend who went on a rampage.

The Kitsap Sun reports that Deputy Prosecutor Barbara Dennis says 31-year-old Geraldo DeJesus couldn't control his hatred for his ex-girlfriend.

DeJesus is charged with fatally shooting 29-year-old Heather Kelso and her roommate's 2-year-old son, Kaden Lum, at an East Bremerton mobile home park in March 2015.

DeJesus has pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated murder and two counts of attempted murder. He says he was sleeping in Port Orchard at the time of the shooting.

Attorney Caleb Cunningham says investigators focused on DeJesus to the exclusion of other suspects. DeJesus was not arrested until nearly five months after the shooting.
