Professor shot and killed at Delta State University; active shooter sought



CLEVELAND, Miss. -- A male professor was shot and killed at Mississippi's Delta State University Monday, according to Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark.

The victim was in his office at the time of the shooting and the shooter remains at large, according to WREG.

Delta State, which is in Cleveland, Mississippi, had earlier tweeted that at least one person was killed in a shooting.

The school tweeted on its official account that the campus was on lockdown and advised that everyone stay indoors and away from windows.

Earlier the school had sent a tweet saying a lockdown was ordered, according to WHNT.

There are approximately 4,000 students enrolled at the school from about 20 countries.

About 30 percent of students live on campus.

There are numerous social media postings about students and staff locked in classrooms and auditoriums.

Numerous law enforcement agencies are on the scene.
