Possible child abduction attempt reported in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- A potential child abduction attempt was reported involving a female Bay View Elementary School student who was walking home from school in Burlington Friday, the school's principal said.

"It was reported that at approximately 1:15 this afternoon a student, while walking home off the bus in the Bay Hill area off of Peterson Road in Burlington, was involved in a potential abduction," Bay View Elementary principal Aaron Darragh said in a message to parents.

"The child was able to get away unharmed and this incident was immediately reported to law enforcement who are now investigating.

"We wanted to emphasize that if you notice anything suspicious in the area to contact 911 immediately," the message said.

Darragh said the suspect was described as a man in a black sweatshirt.

Details were not immediately reported.
