MARYSVILLE -- A bronze statue of a boy playing with a sailboat that has been part of the Ebey Waterfront Park for almost a decade has been stolen--and likely sold for scrap metal.
The Everett Herald reports that the 4-foot tall statue was stolen sometime in late February.
The statute was donated to the park by the Marysville Soroptimist International Club, when the park first opened in 2005. Members raised $3,000 for the statue.
The boy's sailboat had been stolen a couple years ago. Now, all that remains is a foot.
Marysville Police say the missing statue is still under investigation, but that it was likely turned into scrap metal. It could also be someone's new lawn decoration. The Parks Department is waiting for police to close their investigation, before they figure out if they will replace the statue or not.
Any tips about the missing statue should be directed to Marysville Police detective Darryn Wiersma, at 360-363-8350.
