Police search for man who grabbed toddler on street in apparent kidnap attempt (VIDEO)

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a man who was caught on video running down a street in the small town of Sprague, Washington, carrying a toddler in an apparent kidnapping attempt.

The video from a surveillance camera shows the boy's young sister chasing after the man, who set the boy down and ran off on Sunday.

Sprague is about 40 miles west of Spokane on Interstate 90.

Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers says officers don't have any leads in the search. They say they don't believe the man is a resident of the town of about 500 people.

Magers says most likely he was passing through Sprague.

The boy, 22-month-old Owen Wright, was unhurt. Surveillance video from a grocery store shows the kidnapper running with Wright in his arms, with Owen’s siblings chasing after.

Everyone was safe, but police want to catch the man before he tries this again. The suspect is reported to be a slender white male. Call 911 or 725-3501 if you know the suspect.
