Body cam footage: Seattle shoot, kill man after crashing into federal building

Seattle Police shot and killed a man outside the Social Security office on Saturday, after he crashed into a garage and started shooting a rifle into the street.

The police department released body cam video of the incident on Tuesday.

Surveillance video shows the suspect crashing a pickup truck through the garage door of the federal building around 8:10 p.m. The suspect got out with a rifle and started firing it randomly, into the street and side of the building.

Cars sped past, and one driver called 911 to report the active shooter.

Security guards contacted the suspect, and when police arrived they ordered them to back away. Officers gathered around the garage driveway and ordered the man to drop the rifle.

At one point, the man is seen laying down, then seemingly pointing the rifle at his own head. "Don’t do it!" officers can be heard screaming. "He’s trying to shoot himself in the head, now," another officer is heard reporting over radio.

The man stands up, rifle in hand and pointing at police, when five officers opened fire on him. They closed in and attempted first aid, but declared the man dead at the scene.

Seattle Police are still investigating the incident and what led up to the shooting.

The Office of Police Accountability (OPA) told FOX 13 that it does not appear that there are any policy violations in the body cam video, but they will continue to investigate. Five officers were involved.
