Police arrest former Minnesota cellist on pot charges

BLY, Ore. (AP) — A classical musician from St. Paul, Minnesota, has been charged with having more than 100 pounds of marijuana in his car in south central Oregon.

Oregon State Police say they arrested 33-year-old David Huckaby near Bly, Oregon, Friday after pulling him over for speeding.

Police say they discovered about 113 pounds of processed, packaged marijuana in the car's trunk. Police estimated its value at $226,000.

The Star Tribune reports (http://goo.gl/0NhjJT ) Huckaby was charged with misdemeanors of pot possession and unlawful delivery.

With Oregon's law legalizing recreational marijuana, nearly all felony counts regarding possession of the drug have been abolished.

Huckaby joined the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as a cellist in 2009. He left the orchestra in 2013 and performed as recently as August in Los Angeles.

Huckaby remained jailed Tuesday. His attorney was not available for comment.
