Oregon woman accused of neglect for leaving dog in car

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — A Springfield woman has been cited for animal neglected after leaving her dog in a locked car for hours.

The Register-Guard reports that Lucky, a terrier mix, was left inside a locked vehicle outside the Gateway Mall on Friday for at least three hours.

Springfield police received a report that Lucky was inside a vehicle that was parked in a shaded area with the windows cracked and a bowl of water inside. Nearly three hours late, another person reported that the vehicle was no longer in the shade.

The outside temperature at that hour was 97 degrees, and the dog's skin temperature was between 115 and 117 degrees.

Lucky was removed from the vehicle and provided with air conditioning and water. The owner was cited and Lucky was released to an associate of the owner.
