PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida – A Florida woman has been arrested and now faces child abuse related charges after police say she slammed on her brakes to stop her children from arguing in the car.
Port St. Lucie Florida police say Loren Sullivan Simpson hit the brakes causing her 12-year-old daughter, who was riding in the front passenger seat, to slam her head into the windshield.
Police say Simpson told them she hit the brakes on purpose to stop her other two children, ages 9 and 7, from arguing in the backseat.
Investigators say the older daughter wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and hit the windshield so hard it cracked. According to authorities the daughter complained of a headache and dizziness, but Simpson did not take her to the doctor.
Still Simpson told WPBF-TV she had no idea she had done anything wrong until officials from the Florida Dept of Children and Families came to her door days later.
“I didn’t on purpose or intentionally harm my daughter, “ Simpson told the television station. “there was no bump, so I’m sorry but I guess I did the wrong thing.”
Simpson was arrested and booked into jail. She now faces charges related to child abuse.
