Milton community aims to rename baseball field in honor of teen killed in ATV accident

MILTON, Wash. -- A 13-year-old Milton boy was killed in an ATV accident in June, and now his community is coming together to remember him for something other than this tragedy.

Carson Styron died three months ago, but his family and friends say the lower Milton baseball field is the key to keeping his memory alive.

The Styron family say they were devastated by the loss of Carson.

“I think that people put themselves in our shoes and how they would feel losing their child,” said Carson’s mom, Carley Carson. “I think they just really want to help us get through this time.”

Friend Devin Fuchs started a petition to rename the lower Milton baseball field in honor of Carson.

“I just want him to be remembered like he should be,” said Fuchs.

Dozens gathered at the Milton City Council meeting Tuesday night to try and persuade city leaders to make that happen.

“We’re not asking for money, we’re just asking for permission to work with the city to make it a better park and not such an eyesore,” said Carson’s dad, Nate.

Supporters say renaming the park and renovating it wouldn’t cost the city any money because a foundation set up in honor of Carson would finance the project.

“This may not be the most appealing field in Milton, but I think we can help improve it, and I’d love to do it in Carson’s name,” said Carley Styron.

Supporters said they already have more than a thousand signatures and have presented them to city leaders. They said they are now just awaiting direction from city leaders on what the next step is they need to take in the process.
