Marysville Police sport beards, pink to raise awareness in fight against cancer

MARYSVILLE, Wash. -- When you picture a police officer you probably envision them clean-shaven, but officers in Marysville are sporting a new look to raise money in the fight against cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and staffers inside the department are already wearing pink to support victims and research.

Marysville police are combining the two, allowing officers to wear beards and mustaches.

“There’s a lot of people affected by cancer and we thought, what a great way to just kind of represent the organization but also support our community members. After all, that’s what we’re in the business of. It’s not just arresting bad guys and fighting crime. We’re supporting our community and this is a fun way to do that," said Commander Robb Lamoureux.

Through the end of the year, those participating will donate $20 a month for the American Cancer Society.

There will be a "best facial hair" and "best pink accessory" contest each week. They plan to post the winners on the city's Facebook page.
