Marysville council votes to ban fireworks in 2017

MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — The Marysville City Council has decided 2016 will be the last year of fireworks.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports that the council on Monday passed an ordinance that would ban possession, sale or use of fireworks within the city beginning in January 2017.

Because of state law, any local ordinance that is stricter than state law has a one-year waiting period before it takes effect.

After fireworks sparked a number of brush fires in the hot, dry summer of 2015, voters approved an advisory measure in 2015 supporting the ban.
