Man recovering from dam explosion improves condition

SEATTLE (AP) — One of two men recovering in a Seattle hospital after an electrical explosion at a hydroelectric dam on the Columbia River has improved from critical to serious condition.

Harborview Medical Center reports the second man still in the hospital after the explosion is in serious condition in intensive care and is awake and alert.

Four other men injured in the explosion have been treated and released from Harborview and other hospitals.

The Grant County Public Utility District says the explosion on Oct. 8 at the Priest Rapids Dam was caused by an electrical equipment malfunction. The publicly-owned utility serves about 46,000 customers in Grant County, which is about 150 miles east of Seattle.
