INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- An Indianapolis man is hoping to find a couple who are deeply in love and in need of an engagement ring, according to WXIN.
In April 2014, JP Gold proposed to his then-girlfriend, and she said "Yes." They had their date set: Nov. 11, 2016.
About a year ago, things weren't working out and they broke up. For the last year, the engagement ring has been sitting in a desk drawer. He didn't have any idea what to do with it.
He was speaking with a friend who was going through a similar experience, and the idea came to him.
"I'd be willing to give the ring to a young couple, or any couple really, that was struggling and really in love but just couldn't afford the engagement ring," he said.
He said if he were to get engaged again, he wouldn't want to do it with the same ring, so he thought this was a better use of it. He wants to make sure the ring goes to a couple who truly need it.
"I'm just looking for a genuine display of love and need. If you don't need it, don't ask for it for free," he said. "If you need it and you're really in love, tell me why. Tell me every great thing about your potential fiance."
The ring is synthetic stone, Gold says, and it doesn't have much of a resale value. According to him, it's a size seven, 1.7 ctw trillion cut moissanite ring with a 14K white gold band. He said they went with that stone because the woman he proposed to was ethically opposed to natural diamonds.
Of course, with anything that's offered for free, there's always a catch – Gold says he wants an invite to the wedding.
"I want to see the love and have some fun!" he said. He added in his ad for the ring, "I didn't get to attend my own, so I want to at least attend yours."
He also hopes others who might have a ring left over from a relationship that didn't work out would consider his approach.
"Instead of letting it rot in a drawer, try and put it to good use," he said. "I still am a romantic at heart. I still want to see someone else fall in love."
Of course, he's also willing to sell the ring to someone who wants it. If you want to buy it, he's asking for $550, half the price he says he bought it for.
