Man dies after being carried out of apartment fire in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. -- A man died after being carried out of an apartment fire Friday afternoon in the 1000 block of 75th Street SE, Assistant Fire Chief Rick Robinson said.

Fire crews responded just before 4:30 p.m., he said, and found an apartment filled with smoke and an unresponsive male resident on the floor. He was carried out and CPR was performed, but he died later at the hospital, Robinson said.

The fire was contained to one apartment, but two families were displaced and were being helped by the Red Cross, he added.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
