Man calls police: 'I just killed my grandfather'

BREMERTON -- Kitsap County Sheriff's patrol deputies responded early this morning to an apparent homicide at a house in the Rocky Point area of Bremerton.

A 21 year-old man is in custody.  An elderly man was found deceased inside the residence.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 1:58 a.m. to an address in the 2000 block of NW Shamrock Drive following an emergency broadcast that the younger male had called 9-1-1  and self-reported that he had been drinking and had killed his grandfather about an hour earlier.

Sheriff's deputies arrived on-scene at 2:04 a.m.  The younger man surrendered to responding officers at 2:11 a.m. without incident.

Deputies entered the premises and found a deceased elderly male in a bedroom.  The cause of death was not immediately determined, but does appear to involve violence.  No other persons were found at the scene.

The 21-year-old was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages.  Detectives will obtain a search warrant to enter the residence to begin processing the scene for evidence.

Further details concerning this situation will be released when known and authorized by sheriff's investigators.
