Man, 50, gunned down outside Ashford bar

ASHFORD, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot outside an Ashford bar following a dispute.

The News Tribune reports that 50-year-old Paul Hewlett, of Eatonville, died from multiple gunshot wounds early Monday. The gunman, whose name has not been released, was arrested after he called authorities to turn himself in.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer says the two men had gotten into an argument in the parking lot of the bar Sunday night. He says the fight appeared to be over a woman who works at the bar.

The 32-year-old gunman shot Hewlett, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The shooting remains under investigation.
