Major flooding along Snoqualmie River pushes water into neighborhoods

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. -- People in the Snoqualmie Valley woke up to major flooding Wednesday morning. At one point, the river was nearly six feet above flood stage.

“It’s a lot higher than I’ve ever seen it before,” said neighbor Jerry Judd.

Floodwaters cut off David Powell Road; Judd said it’s the worst he’s seen.

“It’s probably the worst in 22 years,” he said.

Near Fall City, the Snoqualmie River burst over its banks, leaving cars submerged and drivers looking for a detour.

In some Snoqualmie neighborhoods, the only way in or out of the flood zone was to hitch a ride in a large truck.

Neighbor Barbra Ann said she had been stuck indoors since Tuesday night.

“Just have to deal with it,” she said.

The United States Geological Survey said the Snoqualmie River should crest by Wednesday night.
