Local mom creates Halloween activity map for Western Washington

One local mom created a massive database for families to find some of the best places to go trick-or-treating this year.

For Brandi Smith, Halloween is more than a holiday.

"We're probably the winners in the neighborhood, as far as decorations go," she said.

Smith’s home is decked out in a massive spooky display. There are skeletons, witches, fog machines, and many other creatures that go bump in the night. She says it took years to amass so much ghoulish décor, and she loves showing it off.

"We've had some people come by with their little kids, and stuff. In the day time, walking around, and looking at everything. Maybe, so they’re not so scared on Halloween night," she said.

However, COVID-19 put Smith’s Halloween plans in jeopardy last year. So, she got creative and made a database for folks like her, who still planned to decorate their homes and hand out candy, to add their address.

"I found a lot of other, like, super cool houses too that go out decorating. In like Marysville, or Edmonds, or Everett through the map because they add their address, or reach out," she said.

This year the Halloween activity map features twice as many options as last year, with about 770 locations, and has already been viewed nearly 20,000 times.

If you are planning on heading out this Halloween, The Pierce County Sheriff's Department want everyone’s night to only be filled with treats.

That means staying safe.

Sergeant Darren Moss, with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, recommends bring a flashlight or other reflective gear when you go out.

He says be aware of cars when walking around neighborhoods and crossing streets. Moss also says keep your eyes on the next door bell you plan to ring, instead of looking down at your phone.

Finally, go trick-or-treating with a buddy. Parents should accompany their young kids, and children 12 and up should go out in a group.
