Light rail train and car collide in South Seattle

SEATTLE – A car and a light rail train collided at Martin Luther King Jr Way S and South Henderson St midday Tuesday.

Police, fire, metro and Sound Transit officials were all called to the scene as part of the response and investigation.

Critics have long complained about that section of lightrail track because it runs at grade with the city streets and has been the location for several collisions in the past.

So far no injuries have been reported.

Sound Transit reported that Central Link light rail service was temporarily unable to serve the southbound platform at Rainier Beach Station.

"Until further notice, board or exit all Link service on the northbound platform only, and expect possible delays," said Kimberly Reason with Sound Transit.
